English

In the English Language Arts department, students are given the opportunity to explore multiple genres and perspectives throughout the year. Students will be challenged to ask questions and use evidence to demonstrate their understanding of a grade level text. We believe in giving students multiple ways to demonstrate their growth in literacy. Reading, writing, speaking and listening are the four key skills students will develop throughout the year.

Key Skills Include:

  • Reading with a clear purpose
  • Annotating texts
  • Gathering evidence-based claims
  • Understanding a variety of perspectives
  • Developing arguments
  • Building reading and writing stamina
